THE WORLD OF EVENTS

A well known writer once said, 'all the world's a stage'. And straddling this stage is the event management industry - the people who make it happen.

Event management is a very exciting field. You could be designing an event one day, planning an event on another, building a stage on the third day and accompanying your clients to an adventure sports weekend on the next! From event creation & design, to sound, lights and special effects, to DJs, models and sports; you would be planning, executing, managing.

In fact, what's really exciting about the industry is that you could be doing different things almost all the time. A career in events involves event marketing, promotions, sponsorships, corporate events, fashion shows and pageants, awards nights, wedding planning, and, of course meeting a host of interesting people. You will interact with some of the most successful people in the country and the world; from movies, television, sports, business and almost every other profession.

Some of the more well known event properties in our country include the IIFA Awards, Femina Miss India, Indian Idol, international cricket matches and the World Cup, etc. And now, in Pune in 2008, and Delhi in 2010 come the Commonwealth Games. Surely, a great time to be in the industry!

This does not mean that event management is all play and no work. In fact, a lot of hard work goes into producing a successful event. While the business does have a strong element of glamour; this should never be the only reason to join the industry.

For, there are many good reasons to be an event manager:

  • The salaries are excellent (the industry is witnessing the highest hike in pay scales among all Indian industries: AC Nielson-ORG report).
  • The work environment is generally informal with a fun atmosphere.
  • The industry promises very high growth prospects.
  • And of course, there won't be any boring, desk jobs.

In fact, the event industry is really on the move; and there is a constant search for new ideas and new events. Every day brings new challenges, new concepts. From cricket to golf; from Zakir Hussain to Michael Jackson; from Theme Parties to Corporate Product Launches, from Conventions to Anniversaries…

Your world could be a stage …
