![]() COEMBA – Public Relations (COEMBA – PR)Why do a COEMBA in Public Relations?
The answer to that question starts with, why do an MBA? So, why a COEMBA in Public Relations? When the MBA boom began around 1994-95; it was in response to the demand for formally trained managers. This demand was because the economy began to boom, in response to economic liberalization. Fifteen years ago the deamnd was for an MBA, but, what companies now realize is that most MBA courses train you in general management skills – they do not teach you the key industry specific skills. To understand this better, let’s look at the following examples. If you do a normal MBA, you will learn general skills pertaining to management like finance, marketing, operations etc. What you will not learn is industry specific skills and knowledge. For example, if you join General Motors, you won’t know much about making and selling motor cars! The same applies to if you join a hotel, or a soft drink company etc. Thus, when you join such companies, you still have to undergo product and industry specific training. This is why most good MBA colleges have started offering industry specific management courses. For example, you can now do a MBA in telecom management, hospital management, hotel management, forest management, insurance management, banking management, communication management, mass media, event management, IT management, just to name a few. The course material for most MBAs was prepared over ten years ago; whereas PR as a subject was not even studied back then!
In short, the COEMBA gives you a head-start. While others are still grappling with the details of the business and its concepts; the COEMBA student is ready for take-off, literally! Course Eligibility
